BHEL partners with Adani Energy Solutions for 6,000 MW HVDC Bhadla-Fatehpur transmission project

India said in a press release on Thursday that Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has partnered with Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Limited, a non -owned subsidiary of Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL).

The joint venture will develop 6,000 MW, K800 KV High-Woltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission system, which will transport renewable energy from Bhadla in Rajasthan, which will be held in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh in Uttar Pradesh, with the expectation of completion by 2029.

The project is an important step towards meeting India's goal of achieving 500 GW renewable energy by 2030 and shows India's continuous commitment to India's energy infrastructure and Make in India initiative, BHEL said.
The HVDC link will play an important role in facilitating the bi-directional power flow, ensuring grid stability and assisting in smooth integration of renewable energy in the national grid.

It marks BHEL's fourth head Ultra High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) transmission project. Earlier, the company has included the North-East Agra +800 KV, 6,000 MW, Raigad-Puggalur +800 KV, 6,000 MW, and currently in Khawda-Nagpur +800 KV, 6,000 MW HVDC Link in collaboration with Hitachi Energy India.

For the current project, BHEL will provide important tools, including converter transformers, shunt reactors and thyristor valves, which will then convert optional current (AC) power in Bhadla to direct current (DC), which will then be transmitted over 950 kilometers away. In Fatehpur, DC Power will be converted back to AC for effective withdrawal of renewable energy.
