The Union Cabinet on Friday approved four railway multicraking projects with a total investment of 18,658 crore in Maharashtra, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Multicraking projects are expected to increase the railway network to 1,247 km.
Under the projects, 19 new stations will be constructed, which will improve connectivity from about 3,350 villages, benefiting the population of about 47.25 lakhs.
These four projects include the third and fourth rows of Jarapada in Sambalpur, Odisha; Cesson's third and fourth row in Jharsuguda, Odisha; In the 5th and 6th row of Paramalakasa, Kharia-Nai Raipur-Permalkasa in Chhattisgarh and Balarshah double in Gondia in Maharashtra.
The initiative will improve travel facility, reduce the logistics cost, reduce oil imports and contribute to low CO2 emissions, support durable and efficient rail operations, a statement by the Cabinet Committee on economic matters.
