In an interview with ANI, Hiranandani said that “housing for all” can be achieved, and stressed the possibility of eliminating all slums in Mumbai.
He said, “I am of the view that housing for all is an objective which we can achieve. There is no shortage of money in the country. We can eliminate all the slums in Mumbai. Devendra Fadnavis has said that in seven to eight years, I can eliminate the slums where today half of Mumbai’s population lives in slums.”
Highlighting government spending on infrastructure in Mumbai, he claimed that more than 300 km of metro network has been added in the last two years.
“We are spending now; we are working on 300 kilometers of metro. We had 190 kilometers of suburban rail for 65 years. We are going to add more than 300 kilometers of metro in two years. We have a cross-harbour bridge. We are building a second airport. We are already planning a third airport. We can do anything to achieve a super achievement in this country today, which never, ever Hadn’t even dreamed of it. Tomorrow,” he said.
Asked about criticism over the Dharavi redevelopment project, Hiranandani supported industrialist Gautam Adani and said India needs such wealth creators. He said, “We need 40 Adani to come. We have only one Adani and one Ambani. If 40 come, our country will improve and there will be more competition among them. Both of them are good people and do good work.” Super-successful people. And the reason to say that they are close to the power centers will always be there, that is why they have become rich. “They don’t understand how hard they have to work to become who they are,” the real estate tycoon said.
His comments come amid the Dharavi redevelopment project for which the Maharashtra government had approved the master plan in May this year. The proposed master plan is an attempt to redevelop one of the world’s largest slums.
