Patna: The process of construction of Sasram-Ara Four-Len Greenfield Corridor through Patna has gained momentum with the current ongoing bid. The agency will be finalized for the construction of four-lane after the tender is opened on 21 April.
The project will promote the development of infrastructure in Shahabad region by providing connectivity to Sasram from Patna. According to the National Highways Authority officials, the construction of the highway this year is expected to start in June this year, and the time limit for the project is 2028 (NHAI,
Regional Officer, NHAI, Yogesh Bahadur Singh said: “The highway is designed to reduce travel time and increase road safety. The project will be applied on the basis of a design, build, finance, operating and transfer (DBFOT), with a 15 -year concession period.
Bahadur said that a cost of Rs 3,900 crore is estimated, two packages will be executed. The first package covers 74 kilometers at a distance of 74 km from Saura village in Rohtas district to Asni village of Bhojpur. The second package will cover 46 km, Patna will connect Sadisopur to ASNI on National Highway -119A on Ring Road (NH -131G).
Singh said, “Access-controlled highway will allow vehicles to maintain speed of up to 100 kmph, will significantly reduce the time of travel between Patna and Grand Trunk Road.” The project includes the construction of a new bridge over the Son River, which is about 10 km from the current Kolewar bridge.
The project was approved by the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) in December last year. A notable feature of the project is the construction of a ring road around Ara, which is expected to reduce the traffic congestion in the city. The highway's controlled-access design, characterized by designated entry and exit points, will ensure smooth traffic flows for travelers and increased safety.
There is a possibility of economic benefits in the project sector. In addition to improving connectivity with Uttar Pradesh, it is expected to encourage regional development and create employment opportunities for local residents. There is a possibility of adequate increase in economic activities in the surrounding areas after the construction starts.
Singh said, “This infrastructure project represents a major step to improve regional connectivity and support economic development in Shahabad region.” With the completion of the highway, not only the travel time will be reduced, but road safety will also be increased and the smooth movement of goods and services will be available.
