Construction of 5.3-km road connecting Dwarka Expressway to Manesar to begin soon

Work on the 5.3-km road stretch connecting IMT Manesar to Dwarka Expressway is ready to start soon, about two years after the approval of the project. An official said on Friday that Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) last week honored an agency with a project of Rs 49.4 crore, and the mobilization of manpower and machinery has already started.

The project is aimed at providing smooth and safe travel to passengers in new areas, the time frame of completion of March 2026. Approved in January 2023, it involves upgrading and strengthening the current six-lane master road that passes through 84–88, 85–89, 86–90 and 87–91.

The main features of the upgrade include the manufacture of a bicycle track, surface drain, greenbelt, pavement, streetlights and road safety furniture.
GMDA Chief Engineer Arun Dhankar said, “This corridor is important to reduce the crowd and upgrade will be important in improving traffic flows.” “Development of this major stretch will greatly increase connectivity between Dwarka Expressway and IMT Manesar.”

This stretch begins in the Central Civil Road (CPR) interchange of Dwarka Expressway and spreads to Kankrola village, which is directly connected to the IMT Manesar. It also provides access to NH-48, Sohna highway and southern peripheral road.

According to GMDA, this stretch sees around 28,000 passenger car units daily. With the opening of the Dwarka Expressway, there has been a significant increase in traffic on this road. Service roads will be constructed on both sides of the main train to help reduce the crowd. Dhankar said, “The road passes through 84-91 sectors and will provide better access to passengers and residents crossing these areas.” Originally built by Haryana Shehar Development Authority in 2010-2011, the road has deteriorated over time. Passengers often complain about pits, rough surface and difficult driving conditions, especially during the rains.

Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Sector 86, said, “This is a very important upgrade that we have been asking for a long time.”

He said, “I only hope that GMDA will not take the project forever to complete the project just like Rampura-Patudi redevelopment.”

The road also passes many residential societies, commercial places, shopping complexes and schools. The Gurugram University located in Kankrola village in Sector 87 along with this road was inaugurated last year, further enhanced the importance of the route.
