Delhi consumers to get solar power infrastructure for free; Here’s what it means for you

In a step to reduce electricity bills and promote the use of clean energy, the Delhi government has launched a comprehensive implementation of roof solar panel installations across the city under the RESCO model, where consumers will be investing zero capital.

Under the RESCO (Renewable Energy Service Company) model, a third-party firm owns and manages the solar power system on a customer’s property. The customer invests zero capital, and purchases power from the firm at low rates under a power purchase agreement. This initiative is expected to reduce the overall cost of electricity and reduce dependence on traditional energy sources.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “Our vision is to make Delhi a clean, energy-efficient and environmentally responsible capital. Through the RESCO model, we are ensuring that the citizens of Delhi have access to solar energy without any advance cost.”
Gupta highlighted the major benefits of the initiative, emphasizing that the solar energy generated would be billed at a low rate and was originally integrated into the existing electricity bill through the integrated billing system.

He said that the cabinet has already approved an additional subsidy of Rs 30,000 on the installation of 3 kW roof solar panels under the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Yojana, which has increased the total subsidy to Rs 1.08 lakh.

The Center has provided a subsidy of Rs 78,000 for solar roof installations. With a budget allocation of Rs 50 crore, the Delhi government aims to install solar systems on the roof on 2.3 lakh houses in the next three years, the Chief Minister said that we are only providing an energy solution, we are empowering citizens to empower citizens.

This step marks a transformative chapter in Delhi’s energy journey, which converts every roof into a power station, and each citizen is included in the contributor in the future.
