Dow And X-energy Submit Construction Application For Texas Advanced Nuclear Reactor Project

The XE-100 is a generation IV high temperature gas cooled reactor (HTGR). According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, interest in HTGRS is increasing because they can provide efficient and cost -effective power and produce heat process heat for various industrial applications.

Since 2018, X-Energy, and later Dow, has worked with NRC through comprehensive pre-application engagement to display the safety profile of XE-100.

X-Energy stated that it has ended in a comprehensive application submital that “NRC rules for conservation of public health and safety as well as environment, with adequate security facilities,” X-Energy said.

The acceptance of construction permits may take up to 30 months. Once the permit is obtained and once the dove confirms the ability to distribute the project by achieving its financial returns goals, construction may begin.

The proposed project may begin construction after this decade and may begin in the early next decade, X-Energy said. Dow, located in Midland, Michigan, said in 2022, when it first announced plans that the plant is expected to be operational by 2030, although it is no longer possible.

Nuclear power and steam property will end the most scope 1 and 2* emissions and ensure that the site remains competitive for the life of the facility.

In 2020, X-Energy was selected by DOE for the development, license and construction of an operational XE-100 advanced SMR and Triso-X fuel construction facility. The Advanced Tristrackical Isotropic (Triso) of Triso-X X-Energy is an ownership version of fuel that will provide electricity to the XE-100 plant.

According to DOE, Triso is a highly strong nuclear fuel, designed with uranium-bearing kernel coated in ceramic layers, which makes it resistant to excessive temperature and pressure, and prevents the release of fragmentation products,

Station can be the first type in North America

The X-Energy has completed the XE-100 engineering and initial design, the Oak Ridge has started developing and licensing a triso-X fuel manufacturing facility in Tennessee, and has achieved approximately $ 1.1BN (€ 1.02BN) in private capital to commercialize its technology.

Once completed, the long MOTT nuclear production station in SEADRIFT is expected to be the first grid-scale advanced nuclear reactor posted to serve an industrial site in North America.

The Gulf of about 150 miles (240 km) from the Gulf of the Mexico coast and in the Gulf of about 4,700 acres (1,900 hectares) and more than 1,200 people in Texas, Texas has the second largest dow facility.

The SEADRIFT site began operating as the Union Carbide Corporate (UCC) facility in 1954 and became part of the Dow Chemical Company in February 2001 through the UCC acquisition.

Products manufactured on the site include wire and cable applications, containers, vehicle components and plastic for toys; Glycols for antify -esters, polyester fabrics and bottles; And oxide derivatives for health and beauty products such as drugs, shampoos, soaps, detergents, window cleaner, brake fluid and paint.

* According to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, which provides standards and equipment that helps countries and cities to track progress towards climatic goals, scope 1 emission emissions that generate directly from the operating and activities of the company. Scope 2 is emission emissions that occur during energy production – electricity, steam, heat or cooling – which a company purchases from external sources, but not on its own features of the company. The scope 2 emissions include emissions from the power plant that produces and emissions the company used by a company that provides steam or heat.
