SLUG-Rehabilitating Wayanad’s Survivors
Kozhikode: State president Panakkad Sadikali Shihab Thangal will lay the foundation stone for the 105 houses being built by IUML for Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide survivors at the project site near Meppadi on Wednesday. The rehabilitation project will be set up in the 10 acres along Muttil-Thrikkaipetta road.
IUML state general secretary PMA Salam said the construction process will be completed in eight months. “Our project launch was delayed as we waited for the state govt to allot land,” he said. MLA PK Basheer said that IUML will select beneficiaries from the list already prepared by the revenue department. “Those who opted for a house in the township being built by the state govt will not be eligible for the homes built by IUML,” he said.
Muslim Youth League general secretary PK Firos said that the houses having an area of over 1000 sq ft will be built on eight cents. “The property is situated at a prime location and has a value of around Rs 2 lakh/cent,” he added.
Meanwhile, of the 402 beneficiaries included in the three lists prepared by the state govt for rehabilitation, 398 submitted their consent forms. And 289 persons opted for a home in the proposed township while 109 chose the financial aid of Rs 15 lakh.
All 242 beneficiaries in the first list had submitted their consent forms and when the last date for those in the 2-A and 2-B list ended on Thursday, 87 persons in the 2-A list and 69 in the 2-B list submitted their consent forms.
Meanwhile district police chief Taposh Basumatary said that the entry of people at the disaster area in Chooralmala and Mundakkai will be regulated. At present, only residents and those going there for agri purposes are allowed to enter the areas declared restricted by the district administration.
