Land acquisition for mega steel plant to begin soon in Odisha’s Keonjhar: CM Majhi

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Sunday that land acquisition for the proposed mega steel plant in Kenjhar district will start soon as the company concerned has already deposited the necessary funds for this purpose.

According to official sources, the mega steel project in the district will be established in a joint venture between JSW Group and South Korean Steel company POSCO, with an initial production capacity of 5 million tonnes per year (MTPA) and an investment of more than Rs 40,000 crore.

The government has identified two land patch for the project, one near Tarakamant and the other in Patna.
After reviewing several development projects in the district, Maji said, “Kenjhar will get a mega steel plant, and preparations for this have already started. The process has taken two steps forward, and the company concerned has deposited the necessary funds for this purpose.”

The Chief Minister said that the establishment of the plant is expected to promote the economy of the mineral-rich district and provide new employment opportunities for local youth.


Maji has taken it as a challenge for the establishment of a mega steel mill in Kenjhar, as the district lacks large -scale industries, an official Sai.
