The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) of India will develop a 121 km long ring road project in Guwahati under a build-operate-toll (BOT) mode at a cost of 5,729 crore. The state -owned authority has signed a concession agreement with Dineshchandra R. Aggarwal Infrakon Private. Limited for the project, and its construction expects them to provide spontaneous connectivity to long distance traffic on the east-west corridor of NH-27, which is an entrance to the north-eastern region.
According to the official statement, the period of concession for the contract is 30 years, including a four -year construction phase.
For the project, the Assam government will bear 50 percent of the land costs and will provide exemption from royalty on the state part of Agiget and GST, which will contribute around ₹ 1,270 crore. The statement said that this causes the total cost of the project to be around ₹ 7,000 crore.
The project is divided into three sections, including a 56-km-long four-lane access-controlled Northern Guwahati bypass, widening the existing 8 km bypass at four to six lanes on NH 27 and the existing 58 km bypass on NH 27 is improved. The project will also include a 3 km major bridge over the Brahmapachar River.
The ring road project will also provide spontaneous connectivity to major cities of the region including Siliguri, Silchar, Shillong, Jorhat, Tezpur, Jogigopha and Barpetta.
