Piyush Goyal calls on construction sector to go green, cut import dependence

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyus Goyal Sunday asked the construction industry to reduce import dependence, focus on clean and green construction and build earthquake-resistant and modular infrastructure.

Goyal said at the inauguration of the first edition of the Chemicals and Allied Products Export Promotion Council (Capaxil) Vibrant Buildcon 2025, “Our infrastructure will not be the second best for anyone. It will really be the best in the world, and for it, we have to reduce our import dependence.”

“We have to make high-quality sanitaryware, furniture, plywood, wooden chips, solid steel and cement, most attractive light and energy-efficient air conditioners. Whatever we do, it would be best in class-halted lift, escalator, tiling, marble, carpet, sound systems, sounds.
Given that the areas including housing, infrastructure, commercial real estate, railways, airports, highways and energy play an important role in promoting the country's economic growth, Goyal said that from cement and electricals to security systems and automation to the ecosystem.

The minister said that the government's initiative, including the establishment of 20 new smart industrial cities and 100 new industrial plug-and-play hub, will currently help India to become an $ 30-35 trillion economy by $ 4 trillion to 2047.
