The post, shared by a frustrated homebuyer, gained attention for its honest take. “Delhi real estate is beyond the reach of a middle-class salary person,” the user wrote, something many people agreed with.
Family pressure and sky-high prices
The user explained that their family did not want to move to Noida or Ghaziabad, thinking those areas were “unsafe” or “too far.” As a result, the house hunt remained limited to Delhi, and what they found was shocking.
In East Delhi:
IP Extension: 3 BHK in a gated colony starts at Rs 1.8 crore
Krishna Nagar: 3 BHK costs between Rs 95 lakh to Rs 1.8 crore
Laxmi Nagar: Skipped due to its “bad reputation”
In South Delhi:
- CR Park: Rs 4.5 crore for a 3 BHK
- 4 BHK elsewhere: Up to Rs 6.5 crore
In North Delhi:
- Model Town: Rs 2.5 crore for a 3 BHK
- Other areas: Rs 1.9 to Rs 2.5 lakh per sq. yard
Even though the family already owned an old house worth over Rs 2 crore, they still needed a Rs 1 crore loan to afford a new flat. “Moving from a full house to a small flat doesn’t seem fair,” the user wrote. “But kya hi kar sakte hain ab?” (What can we even do now?)
Internet reacts: ‘Biggest scam in India’
Many Reddit users shared their own struggles and thoughts in the comments.
One person wrote, “With these prices, it’s going to be a very long winter for ordinary people.” Another user pointed out the huge gap between property prices and salaries: “In 2014, a flat cost Rs 30 lakh. Now it’s Rs 1.4 crore. Salaries haven’t increased much. Even someone earning Rs 40 LPA can’t easily buy a flat.”
A third commenter, who moved to Dehradun, shared their experience: “Pollution, crime, traffic, Delhi is a nightmare. I left and have no regrets.”
Others gave helpful suggestions. “Spending crores on a flat after leaving a full house feels like a downgrade. Try convincing your family to consider Noida or Ghaziabad, better space, better value, and less debt.”
