SJVN releases Rs 269.97 cr land compensation for 3,097 MW Etalin hydro project in Arunachal

The state -owned SJVN Limited said on Thursday that it has issued a land compensation of Rs 269.97 crore for a 3,097 MW Atlin Hydro Power Project in Dibang Valley in Arunachal Pradesh. The project aims to build two dams – on the DRI River and on Talo (Tangon) River – with an underground powerhouse complex, the power manufacturer said in a statement.

According to the statement, the project is scheduled for commission in December 2033.

In an important step towards accelerating the hydro power development in Arunachal Pradesh, SJVN said that it has released Rs 269.97 crore as land compensation for 3097 MW Elin Hydro Electric Project in Dibang Valley.
On March 26, 2025, the land compensation amount was deposited in the joint account of DC & DLRSO, Dibang Valley, SJVN Chairman and Managing Director (Additional Fee) Raj Kumar Chaudhary on Thursday informed during a review meeting headed by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu.

Khandu appreciated the collaborative efforts and assured full support from the state government to expedite the necessary approval to facilitate the continuous development of the project.


Chaudhary said, “SJVN is committed to the inclusive development of Arunachal Pradesh. The release of this compensation is a major step to honor the rights of local communities, ensuring the development of the nation's infrastructure. In August 2023, an MoU was signed between SJVN and the Arunachal Pradesh government with four other hydroelectric projects between the SJVN and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, along with four other hydroelectric projects in the state, with a total capacity of 5,097 MW.

These projects are located in the Dibang Valley district and will be involved in a joint investment of around Rs 60,000 crore.
